Growing out of passed limits
My math tutor, and I started the day by coming back on yesterday’s events, and we both agreed it was for the better. What I thanked him most for is how he spotted the level of stress, and fear I was under. He also wanted to reassure me that he’s always open to news ways of teaching, and understanding his students. With our stronger foundation, we conquered an impressive amount of notions in our 2 hours session.
Interestingly enough, I could easily answer his questions, and did not fear as much being wrong. Also, I seemed to say the right thing again, and again. A shift did take place yesterday. Even if it’s still unclear how it happened, the results speak for themselves. Slowly, mathematical thinking is sinking in. As my tutor says, maths, unlike other disciplines, are not very nuanced. Answers are specific, processes straight forward, and strategies narrowed down to a few specific methods. Mathematics is all about getting to the point, as fast, and with as little effort as possible. It forces me to put my overly analytical mind to rest while engaging into a brand new kind of logic.
My brain is truly expanding at this point because I’m engaging cognitive processes I never experienced before. It’s fun, and engaging. That’s one thing my tutor likes about me, I take deep pleasure in learning, specially things completely out of my comfort zone. I certainly love myself much more when I make such intellectual achievements. I should call my tutoring coaching at this point because I’m undergoing teachings beyond simple academic support. One key element my math coach is working on is giving me confidence. By doing hard things, I grow more able.
He’s committed to build a solid foundation on which I can stand for my final exam. We’re not looking to just have me pass, we’re seeking to give me the kind of learning, and life tools that will propel me to the best of my abilities. This is the kind of mentoring that changes a person for the rest of their existence. At 41, I have an incredible amount of growth waiting to happen. Knowing that, I’m eager to witness what the future has in store for me.
