The stars finally aligned: I got to visit Montreal Fine Art Museum with my friend’s daughter. We had wanted to do this since 2019, but life, then the pandemic got in the way. Like parents like daughter, this smart fifteen years old entertained wonderful conversations.

We had the pleasure of exploring different parts of the largest museum of my province before going on a shopping mission for salt. This one on one girl time rendered useful since I wanted to address a few things with her about her health. She’s going through a difficult phase of teenage hood, and I hope my input can helper find her way to a better mental state. Coming from two overachieving parents who rose above difficult circumstances, this young women certainly feels the pressure to perform.

Interestingly, when parents want to give a better childhood to their kids, they often naively imagine that their offsprings will be problem free. Unfortunately, suffering is part of the human condition, and is inevitable. Sadly, a lot of confusion, and sometimes resentment can arise in such circumstances on both sides, parents and child. Mediating these situations is extremely delicate. It’s obviously not my place to intervene since mental healthcare professionals are those equipped to handle such matters. Still as a friend, I may bring the support I can.

I trust this young artistic soul will find her way, and that her loving parents will cultivate enough open mindedness to resolve the issue. They know they can all turn to me if they wish to talk. I never been a parent, but I am a daughter of parents who overcame many obstacles. I didn’t turn out like them, and my excentrique ways often puzzled them. I can relate to this situation in some way. Hopefully, what I’ve learned over the years can contribute to the healing journey of my good friend’s daughter.

Gratitude Journal:

I’m grateful for peaceful days.
