Candlelight recovery night

I’ve grown increasingly found of my Friday evenings since I’ve realized a month back that it’s my best time to rest l, and relax. I’ve attended class, grocery shopped, and now I’m curled up in my blanket ready to watch an old previously download, and previously watched movie.

As much as I avoid staring at screens to the exception of studying, the last day of the week is where I give myself permission for idle entertainment. Taking my kind off of books has proven as equally important as studying hard. As David Eagleman mentions in Brené Brown’s pod cast, Unlocking Us, rest is the most important part in creating new neural pathways. The grades of my exams also confirms when compared to my poor performance at the beginning of the school year. I would push myself to study 7 days a weeks for as many hours life permitted, and made the mistake of restricting my sleep to 8 hours max. It rendered totally useless, even harmful.

Right, I’m taking full advantage of this solo quiet treat, and will let my tank of dopamine and serotonin refill. It’s the best way to kick out cortisol, and adrenaline on top of giving way to my melatonin to send me off to bed.

I’ve set my computer to night mode so my screen doesn’t project as much sleep disruptive blue light, dimmed my phone screen, turned on my salt lamps, and even lit some candles to create a comforting mood. This is self-care at it’s best! Time to disconnect from the world to reconnect with myself now. Night night!

Gratitude Journal:

I’m grateful for blanket cuddles.
