The first dragging line

It finally happened. After weeks of stress and efforts, I briefly fell asleep taking notes while studying, and left a dragging line at the end of a barely comprehensible word. “Welcome to student life" exclaimed my dear friend S, who spent the last year sleeping 4 hours a night being in a full time teaching bachelor’s while teaching at the same time.

It’s upsetting to see that higher education is seen as a race. Something to rush through and just get it done no matter if you learn anything at all. I’ve heard much criticism about the structure of university programs, and now I get to experience it.

I’m not at all displacing my responsibilities as a student, and I know I have a lot of work to do to reach my goals. The thing I’m currently disapproving of is that the unnecessary pressure place upon students teaches that you can only achieve what you want through self-disrespect, if not self-destruction. A successful life is a marathon in which you spread out the your work load responsibly so you can steadily perform at your best all the time.

I’m in a better position than my schoolmates; I chose my well being, and proper learning over following a rushed agenda. Though, to see them slowly become unwell is frustrating. Education doesn’t need to be that way, true learning takes time for proper knowledge integration. Intelligence demands space and freedom to fully blossom.

Gratitude Journal:

I’m grateful for my internal compass.
